ATLANTA—Georgia State University’s Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) is thrilled to announce the world premiere screening of “Rejuvenation,” an extraordinary feature film executive produced by renowned film and television veteran Tom Luse (B.A. ’74, M.S. ’81). This groundbreaking film, premiering at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5 at the Rialto Center for the Arts, is the result of a unique collaboration between Luse, Georgia State University, and a talented team of students, showcasing their incredible skills and creativity.
Over the last four decades, Luse, an alumnus of Georgia State University, has amassed an impressive list of producer credits, including a pivotal role as producer and executive producer on the groundbreaking series “The Walking Dead” from 2010 to 2019, a series that captivated audiences worldwide. Luse recently reunited with the production to produce the show’s final eight episodes. He most recently has been consulting producer for the hit MGM+ series ‘From’ and ‘Billy the Kid’.
In 2019, Tom Luse joined CMII’s Artist in Residence program, an initiative that enables students to gain invaluable knowledge from industry luminaries, including influential figures like music and film producer Dallas Austin, musician Chris (Ludacris) Bridges and singer-songwriter India Arie.
Spring 2023 marked a significant milestone as Luse took the helm of a select class of students spanning diverse disciplines and colleges, both in front of and behind the camera, to work on a film he co-wrote with Georgia State screenwriting students. Students who participated in the one-semester endeavor earned 15 credit hours tailored to their specific areas of study and gained invaluable credits, references and professional experience to enhance their resumes.
One of the many aspiring filmmakers whose passion and dedication have contributed to the success of this groundbreaking project is Kamal McAllister, a senior majoring in Film and Media at Georgia State who served as First Camera Assistant and B Camera Operator for the production. He shared his experience, saying, “Working on ‘Rejuvenation’ with Tom Luse, was an experience that allowed me to further my passion of filmmaking. The process showed me the importance of being able to adapt to the rapid changes and challenges of the film industry. Working with people, like my fellow camera department, helped me to improve and provided me with a support team for my filmmaking journey.”
CMII executive director Brennen Dicker sees the film as the product of a successful collaboration among CMII, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of the Arts’ School of Film, Media & Theatre and the School of Music.
Dicker explains, ” Rejuvenation stands as a testament to the incredible impact of interdisciplinary collaboration. Partnering with industry luminary Tom Luse, along with the esteemed Schools of Film and Television and Music, we’ve not only enriched our students’ educational voyage but have also sparked innovative horizons in the world of filmmaking.”
Tom Luse shares his excitement for the film, “‘Rejuvenation’ has been a remarkable journey working with some amazing students at Georgia State University. Embracing new technology and techniques, the students showed both dedication and creativity. Making a feature film is a difficult task for even the most experienced crew. I’m excited for our audience to witness the extraordinary achievements of these students in making ‘Rejuvenation.’”
The premiere screening of “Rejuvenation” promises to be a showcase of skill and innovation. We invite you to join us on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Georgia State University’s Rialto Center for the Arts for an unforgettable evening.
