ATLANTA–The Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) at Georgia State University (GSU) proudly announces the selection of new varsity esports players for the upcoming competitive season, solidifying its place among the top esports programs in the country. As a relative newcomer to the esports scene, GSU has made remarkable strides, cementing its position as a prominent force in collegiate esports.
The varsity players for both League of Legends, a popular team-based strategy game, and Overwatch 2, a critically acclaimed team-based shooter game, were selected through open tryouts held at the beginning of the fall semester. Emphasizing inclusivity, the only requirement for tryouts is enrollment as a student at GSU. Varsity players are expected to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA to remain active participants.
Lucas Bailey, the Esports Program Coordinator at CMII, shared his enthusiasm for the launch, stating, “I think we have some exceptionally talented players this year, they’re dedicated and passionate. I look forward to watching them compete and have great hopes for the competitive season”.
