The Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) at Georgia State University and the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, with the support of the Office of International Affairs and the Atlanta Global Studies Center, forged a dynamic partnership to explore the integration of virtual reality (VR) into education. This groundbreaking collaboration elevated students’ learning experiences by immersing them in virtual environments, allowing them to virtually explore major global cities directly from their classrooms.
As part of this initiative, students minoring in international business met at CMII on February 6 and took a virtual tour of several historically and culturally significant sites in Barcelona, Spain. This immersive experience provided students with a firsthand understanding of the potential of VR in education, setting the stage for transformative learning.
Dr. Evaristo Doria, Principal Senior Lecturer at the Institute of International Business at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, was at the forefront of this initiative. Using 8k 360 VR tours publicly available on YouTube in his “Doing Business in Europe” course, Doria enabled students to gain valuable insights into thriving European business markets.
“Integrating virtual reality into our curriculum is transformative for students studying international business. The immersive nature of VR provides a deeper understanding of different cultural and business landscapes, better preparing them for the global marketplace,” remarked Dr. Doria.
James Amann, Manager at CMII, played a crucial role in this collaboration by providing the VR headsets to students in the program, ensuring an engaging and immersive learning experience. The Meta Quest 2 headsets allowed students to feel as though they were physically present in the international business settings they are studying.
“At CMII, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of technology to enhance education. Our partnership with the J. Mack Robinson College of Business exemplifies our dedication to providing students with innovative tools and experiences that prepare them for the evolving demands of media and business industries,” said James Amann.
