INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
CMII is an ideal partner for media and creative industry enterprises moving into new technologies. We offer training in technologies such as 360-degree filmmaking, motion capture, virtual and augmented reality, and multi-location music recording. We are building training capacity in media analytics that helps to target content to consumers. If you’re in the industry and want to update your technological knowledge or have a research project requiring a professional eye, CMII faculty are here to help you.
Industry Affiliates
A core aspect of CMII’s mandate is to partner externally on research and project endeavors. These partnerships include one-off pilot projects, for-contract work, business incubation and entrepreneurial partnering.
These affiliations aspire to generate research useful to the media and arts industries, to connect this research to student educational and training opportunities and to keep the Institute’s work technologically current.
In considering the possibilities for affiliation, we invite you to consider the value an affiliation can bring both to your creative work and to the next generation of creative students now being trained at Georgia State. Setting up formal collaborations is a top priority. For example, we’re more likely to support projects that directly benefit media and arts-making student work than those that don’t. Research generation and partnerships with Georgia State faculty are highly prioritized in our work. So, our criteria are not designed to complicate affiliations but to facilitate them. We are also more likely to approve space/equipment allocations for projects that generate revenue for the Institute than those that do not.
Incubate
Media and creative companies are invited to partner with CMII. CMII partnership commits the corporate partner to payment of a monthly fee to be negotiated based on facility use. Technology support of non-Georgia State equipment is not included.
Because space is limited, a CMII faculty committee, with oversight from the university’s Legal Affairs office, reviews requests for incubation or residential partnership. In some cases, it may make best sense to negotiate a square footage rental agreement on a time-limited basis. In others, a negotiated partnership will organize activities that enhance student access to training and mentorship, which in turn can result in a discounted rate. Priority for corporate residencies is given to established, mature enterprises interested in establishing Atlanta operations, as opposed to firms just starting. But if a new start-up venture holds promise for the Atlanta media ecosystem, for student educational outcomes or for research collaboration, we are eager to collaborate.

Be a CMII Mentor
Mentorship comes in many forms, and the wide needs of our student interests in networking with successful artists and media practitioners mean we can tailor the time commitment to your busy schedule. Perhaps you would be willing to judge a media entrepreneurship pitch party or judge a media hackathon or game jam. Maybe you’d be willing to visit a class or give a talk or participate in a film screening or on an industry panel discussion.
If your accomplishment and level of interest justify a more serious or formal connection to the Institute, we hope you will make contact. In very limited circumstances we are able to appoint artists- or producers- or entrepreneurs-in-residence. These positions are honorific and unpaid, but they codify a connection that can help document your own potential growing contributions to our students and their aspirations.
We welcome any opportunity to work with you and to bring you into contact with our most accomplished students. Our only criterion for connection is the value your experience can provide to them.
Be a CMII Sponsor
One of the most valuable gifts you can share with a rising generation of arts and media students is the priceless gift of your expertise. When it comes to nurturing an entrepreneurial spirit, for example, no advice is more valuable than that offered by someone who’s experienced the challenges and deep rewards of entrepreneurial success and can help students gain a sense of how to navigate the early perils and opportunities of starting a business.
