Documentary Film & Social Issues
Professors of Practice Candice Alger and Douglas Blackmon's work focuses on using documentary filmmaking as a tool for social justice – exploring and highlighting social issues, promoting diversity and leveraging the power of filmmaking to contribute to discussions on societal challenges and transformation.
Social Justice Through Documentary Filmmaking
Alger collaborates on a social documentary film project, "Consider Me," addressing diversity on the new Facebook Platform. The research involves creating a volumetric video documentary in collaboration with the Georgia State School of Public Health to bring attention to social issues through filmmaking.
Historical Reconstruction and Social Justice Advocacy
The research project, led by Blackmon, aims to restore the narratives of individuals involved in Atlanta's forced prison labor system. The focus is on uncovering stories of resistance, resilience, systemic oppression and generational harm associated with convict leasing and unfree labor practices.

Artists in Residence
The Artists In Residence program is a community of talented and renowned artists, each with their own unique style and approach. Among them is Dallas Austin, a highly acclaimed music producer who has won multiple Grammy awards and is a prominent member of CMII's Artists in Residence program. He is best known for his exceptional work with artists like TLC and movies like "Drum Line" and "ATL."
Other notable members of the program include Andrew Aydin, who has made a name for himself with his graphic memoir series "MARCH," and the dynamic duo of entrepreneur Imari Oliver and technologist Kris Pincher. Dedren Snead, a writer, technologist, and futurist hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, is also a part of the program.
Previous artists in residence include Ludacris, Erik Gordon, and Tom Luse, all of whom have significantly contributed to the music, entrepreneurship, and film industries, respectively. Each artist in the program brings a unique perspective and set of skills, making it a rich and diverse community of creators.
